The very fact that it has remained so unspoilt and untouched makes Zambia a wonderful holiday destination, an opportunity to experience "the real Africa". Here visitors enjoy a variety of natural attractions including waterfalls, rivers and lakes in magnificent surroundings, plus a variety of wildlife in two huge protected wilderness areas, the Luangua and Kafue National Parks, home to arguably the most diverse range of game in Africa.

Zambia is a huge country, 750 000 square kilometers in size. Although land-locked, it has many lakes and rivers with beaches, offering a variety of water sports to be enjoyed in peaceful, uncrowded surroundings. Itís also the birthplace of two great rivers, the Zambezi and the Zaire, and provides opportunities for canoeing, rafting and fishing. Many visitors use Zambia instead of Zimbabwe as their base from which to explore the magical Victoria Falls and Lake Kariba. But Zambia offers more than these highlights - of its 2 vast National Parks, the sanctuary surrounding the Luangwa River is apparently the largest concentration of wildlife in the world, and also offers the finest game viewing in Africa.

Time to Travel

There is no time when Zambia needs to be avoided. It is a summer rainfall area, with afternoon thundershowers being common during December to March. Game viewing is at its easiest during the dry hot months of October to December, when temperatures often exceed 30 degrees C. It is seldom that temperatures fall below freezing in winter (May-August), which is characterised by cool nights and warm clear days. The Victoria Falls is at its fullest in the first half of the year and the flow is much reduced during the last half, when rafting is at its wildest.
